The 'Change Britain' Lie - The #Brexit Myths and Misinformation Continue ...

You may have heard of 'Change Britain'. No? Let us enlighten you, then.

Change Britain' are the result of a rebranding / relaunching of the Brexit Group 'Vote Leave' - yes, the group that used lies, manipulation and misinformation to con enough people into voting for Brexit. The group founded by Matthew Elliot and Dominic Cummings, who was hammered by MPs at the Treasury Select Committee in April 2016 for creating misleading #Brexit leaflets which fooled voters, and was also described by David Cameron as a 'career psychopath'.

Their key people are a group who rather strangely represent everything that the Brexit Camp claim to be fighting against:
  • Gisela Gschaider Stuart - a Labour MP who has benefited enormously from the EU Freedom of Movement, seeing as she's a migrant from Germany. Promoted and fast-tracked by Tony Blair, and the only Labour MP to be a huge supporter of the almost universally derided George W. Bush. Not only voted for the Iraq War - but voted to block any investigation into it, as well. Stuart was the one who went on TV and public stated the '£350m to the NHS' promise.
  • Peter Cruddas - a banker and businessman, Monaco-based Tax Dodger, the richest man in the entire City of London, worth £860 Million, having made most of his money from a Currency Spread Betting company. Yes, he's one of the super-rich 'elite' that the Brexit Campaign are supposed to hate. Said to have been the key man in the Tories offering access to David Cameron and George Osborne (for cash, of course).
  • Lord Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, The Most Honourable 7th Marquess of Salisbury, Viscount Cranborne, Baron Cecil of Essendon -  Another banker, former Conservative Defence Minister and Leader of the House of Lords. Yes, he's the ultimate Eton-educated super-rich elite with inherited title and wealth. His family has been strolling the corridors of Westminster for over 500 years. Quit the House of Lords in anger when they brought in a new 'Declaration of Financial Interests'.
  • Baron Maurice Glasman of Stoke Newington - Lecturer in Political Theory, and another unelected Peer for Life. Coined the term 'Blue Labour' which he defined as a "conservative version of Labour". Called on the Government to open a dialog with the violent Far Right English Defense League and even wanted them to be allowed in the Party. Called for a complete halt to all immigration.
  • Field Marshal Charles Ronald Guthrie, Baron of Craigiebank  - Former senior Army Officer born to titled, landed gentry. Advocated in 2002 the use of military tactics that were de facto war crimes. Director of Rothschild & Sons and dozens of other companies. So devoted to the Leave Cause that he supported the Remain Campaign ... until less than a week before the Referendum, when he suddenly switched sides.

Well, 'Change Britain' issued a statement today to those who had signed up to assist in the campaign (as we did, under our usual false names) and it seems that the myths are continuing apace. Here, we quote it in full, each point easily busted with a few minutes research, as usual.

Dear XXXXXXX,

"Thank you for signing up as a supporter of Change Britain."

  • Well, we didn't but we appreciate the sentiment.
"On 23 June a clear majority of the British people voted to leave the EU and take back control of our borders, laws, money and trade. Now we need to roll our sleeves up and get the job done."
  • "A clear majority of the British people..." ?? Two plain lies here. Firstly, it was a wafer-thin majority of those who actually voted. Secondly, it was a small minority of the actual British people. This 'Will Of The People' Myth has been pointed out daily to Change Britain yet they still insist on spreading it.
  • "Voted to leave the EU and take back control of our borders, laws, money and trade..." ?? "Voted to 'Leave the EU" ? Yes, barely. "Borders, laws, money and trade" ? Four lies. None of this was on the ballot paper or in the Referendum Bill, either. Change Britain may claim that these may have been some of the motivations behind the vote, but they cannot state categorically that anybody actually voted for these reasons. It may be entirely feasible. But it is not fact - and Change Britain know it.
  • Two paragraphs in - and already the truth is taking a battering.
Lies: 6

"Due to the recent High Court decision, that job has got harder. A small number of powerful campaigners backed by wealthy bankers and London lawyers won a legal battle they hope will delay the process of taking the UK out of the EU."

  • "Due to the recent High Court decision, that job has got harder..." - That would be the High Court decision which simply enacted, correctly, what was in the Referendum Bill. It was always there, since 15th December 2015. We're surprised that Change Britain didn't see it - we certainly did. The job has not 'got harder' - it was always going to be so. This could simply be a basic failing in research from Change Britain, but it's far more likely that they and Vote Leave knew, and lied.
  • "A small number of powerful campaigners backed by wealthy bankers..." - Ah, much like the Brexit Campaign, then. Ukip donor Arron Banks threw more cash at the cause than anyone. Or wealthy bankers like Change Britain's own Peter Cruddas. While this is not a lie, it is bare-faced hypocrisy of the highest order.
  • "London lawyers won a legal battle..." - Yes, they did. Because the lawyers simply pointed out what the Law said. That British Law, enacted democratically in Westminster - the 'British Law' that Change Britain want to 'take back'. Now they wail over it not working as they planned. Reap as ye sow, boys.
  • "They hope will delay the process of taking the UK out of the EU." - Lie. The action is simply to ensure that Brexit is debated and voted on by Westminster.

"As a result, pro EU politicians in Parliament are talking about stopping Brexit from happening. We face a real battle in Westminster. Remember – 75% of MPs voted to Remain, even though 63% of their constituencies voted to Leave."

  • "As a result, pro EU politicians in Parliament are talking about stopping Brexit from happening." - Yes, they are. It's their job, to discuss and talk about such policy changes. Complete hypocrisy and double standards. Change Britain seems to think this a bad thing, for some reason, to discuss the biggest political and economic shake-up the country has seen for decades. After all, anti EU politicians in Parliament have been talking about enabling Brexit since the 70s. It's their job too.
  • "Remember – 75% of MPs voted to Remain, even though 63% of their constituencies voted to Leave." - True enough. But highly misleading. That's our current British system, democratically designed by a British Parliament. MPs vote on laws, it's Representative Democracy. You may not like it - but it's what we have. And it wasn't forced on us by the EU.
  • "63% of Constituencies" : Maybe: but only 51.8% of actual voters. But, hey - 63% sounds so much better, doesn't it? Again, highly misleading. This is Change Britain trying to spin that wafer-thin majority.

"So when that vote in Parliament happens every single one of us will need to play our part."

"Every single one of us will need to get in touch with our local MP and every single one of us will need to remind our MP that we voters expect them to Respect the Result."

  • "We voters expect them to Respect the Result." - Whereas we 'Remainers' expect every MP (and every voter) to respect our British system of Representative Democracy. MPs will decide. Voters have a right to contact their MP at all times, on any issue, of course. But if MPs vote to remain in the EU, then Change Britain need to - dare we say it? Yes we dare! - 'Respect The Result'. Using this phrase again is misleading in that it intimates the Referendum was binding in some way.

"You have signed up to help. I don't need to tell you how important this is. I will be back in touch nearer the time to tell you how to contact your MP. But in the meantime, please LIKE our Facebook page so you can stay up to date with the campaign."
"We voted to take back control on June 23rd. We won't let anyone - however powerful - stop that from happening."
  • "We voted to take back control on June 23rd" ? - Lie, as before. Also, meaningless, as apart from it being a throw-away sound-bite, no-one has ever defined it's meaning.
  • "We won't let anyone - however powerful - stop that from happening." - You won't let our MPs do the jobs they were elected to do? That's almost anarchist! But we've always known that Democracy was a flexible and disposable concept to Brexiteers.
  • And as for 'however powerful' ... Hypocrisy, considering the biographies of the rich, powerful and titled elite that control Change Britain. We 'Remainers' won't let powerful Millionaires and Unelected Peers stop us stopping Brexit.

This is simply a quick and easy fact-based myth-busting of this single communication. On various pages on their website they make 49 false claims.

In part, we suspect the rebranding from Vote Leave is a measure to attempt to distance themselves from the publicly documented lies of that Organisation. But it will take more than anew name and a new logo to do so.

Very simply, if Change Britain want all of us to 'come together' with people across the Political spectrum to create and forge a future, post-Brexit Britain, they will need what Vote Leave lacked: Integrity. And that starts with truth.

Clearly it is Change Britain's intention to carry on the wave of Brexit Lies until they are caught out by enough people who will finally realise: it's all the same smoke and mirrors as before.

In part, we suspect the rebranding from Vote Leave is a measure to attempt to distance themselves from the publicly documented lies of that Organisation. But it will take more than a new name and a new logo to do so.
